Concept Development

This collection is based on the transformative power of escapism. I developed this concept while studying abroad in Paris and it shaped me to be a better version of myself. This was my form of escapism, with getting comfortable being by myself, and growing myself as an individual.

There were many nature parks in Europe and I would sit and think by the pond, and when I think of that, I think of Claude Monet. With his softness within his paintings, particularly the movement of water, reflections, and lotus flowers. It inspired me to translate that same fluidity and emotion into my garments through color, texture, craftsmanship, and silhouette.

The collection progresses through four looks, each representing a different stage within the emotional journey of escapism. Throughout all four looks, the color blue anchors the narrative, symbolizing reflection, calmness, emotion, and healing. The silhouettes evolve from structured and restrained into fluid and blooming forms, mirroring the journey from darkness into light.

This collection also represents my own growth as a designer. It pushed me technically, creatively, and emotionally, allowing me to experiment with draping, textile manipulation, hand sewing, dyeing, structure, and movement in ways I had never explored before.

Through Through My Eyes, I hope viewers not only see the garments themselves, but also connect to the emotions and craftsmanship behind them, because escapism is something we all experience in our own way.
