Cocoon

The first look begins with a more structured silhouette, symbolizing emotional tension and restraint. I first created the shape by draping with paper before constructing the garment using crinoline and boning. The dress is layered with bias tape made from liquid satin that I hand dyed myself. Some sections are machine sewn while others are hand sewn to create texture and movement throughout the garment. Although structured, the silhouette still begins to introduce softness and flow.
